TriumphAll dignitaries proceeded with lighting of the lamp followed by the prayer song, then came the Principals Annual Report which he began with words of wisdom for the students, then started with the regular explanation of the activities carried out by all Departments in the academic year 2008-09, he praised the efforts of AKANSHA a NGO opened by students of CMEC who initiated Blood Donation camps and other voluntary activities, he concluded his speech with request to the management to provide facilities to the students in context of placements in this time of recession, his point was appreciated by the students as it was heard with there screaming and shouting.

C.M. Engineering College on this occasion launched its new LOGO which was liked by everyone, the formal event continued at a very slow pace arduously boring the audiences with speeches by all the dignitaries, after the speeches the MCA students launched a CD with the OCMIS (Online College Management and Information System) project, the very first of its kind by any students in the MRGI groups.

Next in line were the awards and prizes for outstanding students in Academics and Sports, this time the show was managed by Co-hosts Purnachand and Keerti, there was a special trophy dedicated to the winning cricket team of “Abhinav Cup” won by Aeronautical Students lead by Captain Ashok Jhajhria, this cricket cup was dedicated in memory of Abhinav a senior student of CMEC who lost his life in a road accident during the last annual day.

The CSE branch won the Chairman’s Trophy and IT Branch won the Best Sports team trophy and the celebrations for the same continued for a long time and the crowd had to be moved out from the stage who were deeply engrossed in getting there pictures clicked with the trophy.

All said and done with the formal event, the crowd was waiting for the cultural programs to start up and finally the announcement was made for the break which requested the audiences to help themselves with food, but it was found that the break which was only for 10 minutes didn’t suffice as the cultural programs had simultaneously started. Something which the audiences were not expecting was a gag from the anchors, as Keerti Purna and Gaurav started the programs with a gag on Terrorism asking the youth to be vigilant and not to be scared, Jai Ho and A R Rehman seemed to be the hot favorite of everyone as the first performance was a honor to Rehman, wonderfully carried out by students from all the branches clubbed together it changed the mood of the audience who were bored earlier but were asking for more dances and masti, but next was a Classical dance by Aeronautical students as a tribute to Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai, next to hit the stage for a mind boggling performance by Sudheer and group which managed to make the audiences to dance in there seats and cheer for them at the top of their voices.

The show was going on at full swing adrenaline levels, but at the same time the anchors continued with there hilarious gags which kept the crowd attentive and mostly entertained, one of the anchor Gaurav was particularly seen keen on Shers and Shayaris and managed to tickle the audiences and even the Chief guests with his witty and apt Shayaris, one of the anchors was heard quoting “this is not rehearsed, most of it is spontaneous” wonder few of the dances were also not rehearsed and were spontaneous acts as they lacked co ordination and could not be called as group or duets dances.

So many dances seemed to have taken a toll on the spectator’s mind, for a change there was skit by Narasimha and group which enacted a modern day Ramayan with a twist of love story, it surely was accepted widely among the crowd, followed by more dances there was a silent skit by Vimal and group depicting a scene in a theatre, Vimal was definitely the center performer of the skit who without a single dialog managed to convey his thoughts thru actions and expressions par mentioning.

More dances more dance more dances, it must sound fun but it grew tiresome and a skit by Rakesh and Group was also

performed in the near end of the function. A relief was sent by the CMEC rockerzzzzzzz the very first band of the college and it was performing its first ever live show, thou it took, them quite a lot time to settle down and tune there instruments they managed to here “Once More” hooting as everyone appreciated there performance and wanted more, so not listening to the management these guys performed on and on till they felt like calling it quits and they literally rocked the floor.

The only solo dance of the evening or may be night was by Vimesh from IT 3rd year who went on the stage solo to perform but by the time he ended his performance he was joined by others from the audience to enjoy the mood of event.

Surprisingly the last performance was “Tribute to A R Rehman” with a medley of his songs performed by students of Aeronautics; it seemed rather absurd to hear to Jai Ho once again in the end too. Thou the performance was amazingly choreographed by the students themselves, the audiences were more than waiting for the DJ night to begin the show was officially closed at 11pm in the night but the DJ rocked the floor till 11 40 pm and students were seen dancing and merry making, forgetting about all there worried of exams, attendance, labs etc.

The wonderful night had come to an end but the feel of joy was felt all throughout the program and right till the end, the true spirit behind colleges annual day celebration i.e. to value and show case talent was found profoundly in TRIUMPH-09.
