It Happens Here :>

Malla Reddy Group of Institutions (MRGI) hosted the annual technical fest on the 13th and 14th of March, 2009. The tech fest conducted every year individually in the various colleges of the group of institutions was conducted this year on a whole new magnificent scale at a far greater level than expected by many!!

Previously known as ‘AKSHARA’, the tech fest of the mother college of MRGI, the fest was newly christened as ‘TECH-PRAGNA’…and not only the name but the conduct as well as the program saw a great number of modifications too. The fest, unlike usual, didn’t just include the technical paper presentation contest, but this time various departments as well held a number of novel contests and quizzes like the poster presentation contest, project work exhibition and contest, technical quizzes, etc…

What was awe-inspiring was the inclusion of LAN gaming this year…and one more time MRGI proved itself to be next to none!! A team of ‘golive’ volunteers very well drew participants to have a taste of the most wanted in their very own college.

If you just thought that was all…then you sure got to get ready to take in more surprises with the ‘FUN GAMES’ stalls put up near the college canteen and the MRPGC block, drawing crowds of students who wold stand there asking for more!! There was the dart-game, light-your-candles, photo-hunt and lots more…and for all those who would have wanted a flashy make-over after a rally weary technical presentation, the ‘Javed Habib hair make-over’ stall was the final pitstop.

But what one looks forward to in a technical fest apart from the technical contests and quizzes is the plethora of technical addresses that enlighten the aspiring graduate about the latest statistics in the global technology sector, R&D and ways and means to make it big in the global market!!! And if you were at TECHPRAGNA-09, you would’t ask for anything more as apart from the guest lectures organised by the individual departments, the rousing ‘techno-filled’ addresses of the honourable guests were as well highly commendable.

The inaugral of TECHPRAGNA-09 on the 13th of March, 2009 started off with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony followed by a prayer song by the students of MBA department. The inaugral function was presided over by Dr. M.D.Christopher, the Secretary of APSCHE as the guest of honour, while Dr.Tulsiram Das, Director of Academic Planning, JNTU had been invited as the chief guest.

At the onset, Prof. Komaraih, Principal, MRCET who was also the Chief Coordinator for the event, spoke about the chairman, Mr. Ch Malla Reddy’s vision of all the colleges of MRGI participating together in the tech fest as a whole, and how the vision had finally led to this remarkable day owing to the unending and reliable cooperation and support extended by each and everyone in the institution. Dr. Madan Mohan, Director of Academics, MRGI was only glad enough to agree to what Prof. Komaraih had said and he concluded wishing the group many more such successful events.Further, Dr. Tulsiram Das enlightened the audience on global industrial requirements. He notified that 35% of the intellectual manpower in India comprises the youth, and hence it is essential for them to be equipped with certain skills that are not included in the regular curriculum like ‘attitude development’, various soft skills and organisational skills. Towards the end of his speech, he aquainted the student audience with the ‘3 Cs’ in life which are ‘Competence’, ‘Confidence’, and ‘Committment’.

Dr. M. D. Christopher expressed his delight on hearing about the Medical College being initiated, and congratulated the management for organising such a grand event with such appreciable prize money, as well wishing them a bright future!! He spared a lot of good advice for the aspiring students present in the audience. Dr. M. D. Christopher adviced the students on opting for higher studies alongwith developing a positive attitude. He emphasised on the significance of communication skills and logical thinking. Highlighting certain statistics about the industrial requirements of intellectual manpower he estimated that about 2.5 lakh students are directly employed most of whom belong to A.P. Also that only 25% of all engineering graduates are employable, out of which only 7% are from A.P., so the direction of development should be in terms of quality and not quantity!! Recalling what Bill Gates had said sometime ago, he said “If US is the leader of software products, India is the leader of its services”. Further too he persistenly emphasised on the need to learn English language in various accents, opt for industrial training as about 40% jobs are given to freshers and hence, overal personality development is very important.

He as well accentuated the need for an optimistic approach for survival with a quote,”An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity while a pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity”. At the outset, Dr. M. D. Christopher assured the students that the present recession is only temporary and that they should never limit their aspirations and aim for the top!!

Following the highly erudite speech by the Guest of Honour, the Chairman of MRGI, Mr. Ch. Malla Reddy addressed an unstoppable audience (unstoppable at applauding to his arrival at the podium!!). And in his own words, as ever, Mr. Malla Reddy made a statement when he said that everybody carries their success and luck in their very own hands, and so it is up to them as to what they want to make out of it. And here, as a special case he mentioned,” I am giving you the platform, the resources and the opportunity, make the most of it!!!”. Hence, as a parting note, he adviced the students to quit laziness and work hard towards achieveing success.

As ‘everything that ends well is well’, everything that has had a great beginnig must as well have a great end, and so did TECHPRAGNA-09 too have one. The valedictory function was presided by Dr. Shankar. S. Manthaa, Vice Chairman, AICTE, New Delhi. The Chief Director of Administration, MRGI, Mr. Ram Reddy, summarised the details of the event, highlighting especially the number of papers registered under each department. The Computer Science, and Electronics & Communication Engineering Depts got around 45 papers each, the Biotechnology Dept registered some 39 papers, while there were more than 80 posters pertaining to Pharmacy. In all, nearly 500-800 students had registered for the event. Following the prize distribution where the first was prized at Rs.5000, the second at Rs.3000, and the third at Rs. 2000, the college rock band performance called for a more or less apt conclusion of the event!!!
And so, one would not hesitate in calling it a ‘MEGA’ event for sure!!!
