It Happens Here :>

The period of recession has taken its toll on many lives. The young minds seem to be trapped in a turmoil considering their future. Many of them, who aspired to work after their graduation, are now ambivalent in choosing the path to tread. “When there are hardly any jobs available, we need to have a choice, and the next best thing to do is a post graduation”, opines Sneha, an Engineering final year student. The available options for a post graduation are MS, M.Tech or an MBA. Depending on ones’ interest, the related tests would be taken up.

One such examination conducted to select the crème of the nation for management studies is the Common Admission Test [CAT]. To crack the CAT and get into the world renowned institutes, the IIM’s is the dream of every ambitious MBA enthusiast. Everything about CAT is fascinating; from the way it is designed to the way it is conducted. The news that CAT is going online this year just added to the horror of many. If it proves to be a nightmare for some, it is a passion for some others. “I wish I can at least clear the cut off”, chirps Megha. On the other hand, the confident Chetan says, “Whatever it be, I am going to crack the CAT this year”.

As simple as it may look, the CAT has got three sections, namely:

  1. Quantitative Ability
  2. Data Interpretation
  3. Verbal Ability

The syllabus demands only the knowledge of the basic tenth class Mathematics (It wouldn’t be straight from the textbook though!). The twists and turns the CAT papers have been offering over the years, knock out even the best in the field.

The Education Times (TOI) conducted a free workshop on CAT at The Balaji Palace Hotel, Ranigunj, on Sunday, the 19th of July. Workshop held by Mr. Byju, a 100 percentile scorer in the CAT exam, three years ago, was aimed at simplifying the trauma faced by most CAT aspirants in Math. The event witnessed hundreds of people with different profiles of students and the working class, all of whom aim to clear the CAT. Some of them being freshers, who are giving the test for the first time this year and a few others trying for the 2nd or 3rd time.

Mr. Byju saw to it that he got cent percent attention and concentration from all his participants through his amazing display of simple tricks on how to solve the problems in the Quant section. All of what he taught was easy realizations of math which have been cradled in our minds in a complex way. He says, “It is the perception through which we look at a problem that is important. Who says math has so many topics in it? All of them are one and the same, inter-related to each other one or the other way. Once you realize that and get your way out those conventional formulae, you surely can stop worrying about the Quant”.

“I never knew math could be so simple. How I wish I could have known this earlier, for I never would have hated it. This session is really helpful especially for people like me!” exclaims Piyush, a student. Shares Neha with a similar thought, “I wish I hadn’t whiled away so much of my precious time solving hundreds of problems. At least I am sure wouldn’t do it now. I’ll use my time constructively. I am so glad I attended this workshop”.

Mr. Byju travels across many cities such as Delhi, Bangalore, Bombay, etc to share his knowledge amongst the CAT/IIT-JEE aspirants. This was the first time he came to Hyderabad to do the same. Another FREE seminar on CAT is being offered by him on the coming Saturday, i.e. the 25th of July, 2009. The ones interested in the free session should register themselves by sending an SMS on 9966708480 that one wishes to attend the session on Saturday. A full time course, including the test series is also being provided, the batches of which start from the 1st of August, which has to be taken with a nominal fee.

Here’s wishing ‘All The Best’ to all those who are ardent and determined to bell the CAT this year. We hope the information provided proves to be of some help to all those aiming the CAT.
