On 15th July, during the 7th period, when there arrived a notice from the principal  that all the students should come down and assemble in the ground. The students had no clue what to anticipate. To the surprise of the students, there was a dance competition, ‘ Nach ke Dikha’ organized by Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM.

At 1:15 p.m, when attending even the most interesting class also became a big bore, this event came as a sign of relief for the girls of Wesley degree College for Women (WDCW). Seeing all the RJs and DJs, the girls were in a super excited mood. Desi Girl, Crazy Kiya Re, Dance pe Chance, Race, Lucky Boy were some of the many high energy songs that echoed in the WDCW campus. There was music and masti all around. Classes stopped and all the students were out. Even the lecturers came out and could not stop themselves tapping their feet on the music. The icing on the cake was the enthusiasm of the students. No one was shy to participate and almost every girl participated in the competition and those, who didn’t, were cheering  the participants. There were even some games orgnized by the Radio Mirchi team, to make the event even more interesting. “Passing the Pillow” was one of the games played. The only thing that was missing was the pillow. Rather, a ball was used in it place. There were many such games and the girls enjoyed them thoroughly.

Unfortunately, as there was a sudden meeting, the principal requested the team members to stop the music and thus the programme was winded up. The judges declared Swathi Sarda from third year B.Com (Reg) and Sushmita from first year B.Com (Comp) as the winners of the competition. Swathi was very excited. After receiving all the congratulations, she said, “Bohot mazaa aa raha hai yaar. I am really very happy that I won and I am definitely going to make my college proud at the finals. Just wait and watch”. Sushmita, the other winner said, “Its such a exciting moment. I will give my best in the finals”. The principal while addressing the students said, “This event reminded me of my college days. I am really sorry that I have to stop it. I congrtulate the winners and wish them luck for the finals”. Contrary to everyone else, Mrs.Ratna Jyothi, HOD commerce department, was quite annoyed with all this because she missed a very important class due to this event. She asked the girls to concentrate on studies, rather than on such ’stupid programmes’.

As per Mr.Ankur, team leader Radio Mirch, the purpose of conducting this competition was to select two best dancers from each of the top twenty degree colleges of the city like Bhavans, Kasturba Gandhi and Aurora. Then these 40 dancers  will fight it out for the title of the ‘dancer of the twin cities’. The ‘Grand Finale’ will be held on the 27th of July, which will decide the winner of the competition. The venue has not yet been decided but some of the prospective venues are the Bhavan’s campus or the OU campus.

The WDCW campus was glittering with bright faces. Everyone was in a jovial mood. All the stress of studies was left behind. Fun was at its peak and so was the energy of the students. This event revealed many hidden talents in the college. WDCW, now is waiting for either of its winners to bring the ‘crown of the best dancer’ with her.
