Loyola Academy, Alwal has not just been known for its lush green campus, the quality of education that it provides also makes it one of the best institutions in Hyderabad. With a plethora of resources in its arsenal, Loyola has managed to provide quality education to groom aspiring individuals and secure their future. With recession literally toying around with the economy today, the need for commerce graduates has been on a rise. At Loyola, conscious efforts are made to meet these needs and send out groups of fine individuals, who could really make a mark in the real corporate world. Loyola Academy today, has three branches under B.Com namely,

  • B.Com Honours
  • B.Com Insurance
  • B.Com Advertising And Sales Promotions (Also Known as B.Com Professionals)

B.Com Honours has been started with an aim to provide a detailed description and analysis into subjects like Financial Accounting and Cost Accounting. Students interested in Chartered Accountancy, Cost And Work Accountancy and many similar professional courses or doing their Masters in Business Administration (MBA) are the ones, who opt for this course.

Dipesh, A final year B.Com (hons) student says, “I find that the in-depth analysis into subjects like Accounts and Statistics very interesting. If I manage to be good at such subjects, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to crack major examinations and my road to doing MBA will be much simpler”.

Talking about the infrastructure, Ankur says “Infrastructure could never pose as a problem in Loyola. Computer Labs, Seminar Halls, Libraries…you name it and they have it. This is really something very commendable”.

“‘Stop Talking…Hello’ – Not a single Statistics class went without this dialogue from Suresh Sir followed by our controlled laughter. But as much as we can question their (the lecturers’) communication skills, what matters in the end is whether we as students are able to understand each and every concept in every subject. The answer to that question would be a big YES. Their teaching ability and their subject knowledge negates their partial inability to communicate”, says Adam (Name Changed).

A rapidly growing insurance industry has called for more and more professionals. B.Com Insurance thus, promises to be a career-oriented course with a lot of guest lectures and practical work to keep up with the pace of the growing industry and raise the competence levels of the students to new towering heights. At Loyola Academy, this stream is further divided into- Life Insurance and General Insurance. Like every other stream, B.Com Insurance is a course packed in 6 full semesters. But, along with the prescribed curriculum, the students are expected to appear for the exams conducted by the Insurance Institute Of India with the help of which they get a qualification based on this insurance institute.

While talking about job opportunities and the current trends, Shasheel, a final year student says, “This stream is really very distinct. When I came to Hyderabad a couple of years back, Loyola was the only college in which this course was offered. Looking at the emergence of a lot of private hands in the field of insurance, there is a very good job opportunity. Apart from this we’ve had a lot of guest lectures by eminent insurance professionals. It’s been an awesome course… there is not even an ounce of regret for joining this stream… I love it”.

About the tie-up with the Insurance Institute of India, he says, “We students are offered dual degree with Loyola and the Insurance Institute Of India. There are three stages in the exams conducted by them. The first stage is called ‘Licentiate’, the second is the ‘Associate’ and the last stage is the ‘Fellowship’. After surpassing the second stage, we will be eligible for applying for jobs in various insurance companies and clearing the final stage, we can directly become general managers”.

The third stream is the B.Com Professionals that covers interesting aspects like Advertising and Sales Promotion. This course provides the required skills and hence, a platform for the students to pursue M.A. Mass Communications, Post Graduation Diploma In Journalism, MBA etc.

This course includes field work for collection, analysis and interpretation for data in the area of Sales Promotion and Marketing. There are practical sessions on photography and the students are given a first hand experience on advertising commercials.

“Along with the regular subjects like Accounts, we have very interesting topics like Sales Promotion, Marketing Research and also includes specialization in advertising. With well experienced faculty members, this course seems the best in Loyola to me. I love it. The only complaint against it would be the lack of separate labs. There is just this small infrastructure drawback. I think the next few coming batches will witness this flaw being covered as well.”

There is always an evident, direct relationship between the quality of Education offered and the kind of faculty. While Mrs. Agna Joseph, Head Of Department of the whole B.Com Department, is known for her techniques of teaching beyond the four walls of a classroom, Mrs. Praveena, the incharge of B.Com Professionals and Mrs. Sudha Rani, the incharge of B.Com Insurance, have been known for their subject knowledge and the knack of putting it across to their students. Mrs.Indira Prasad, Ms.Jacintha Vincent, Mr.T.Suresh Babu are a few more exemplary lecturers with vast subject knowledge.

Thus, B.Com at Loyola Academy is diversified as it covers various aspects of business and a lot of processes in and around it and hence, promises a very bright future to a humongous number of students.
