From the day the students join St. Mary’s the college begins thinking about their future and their goal at St. Mary’s is to go beyond sound theoretical knowledge to give the students a hand-on experience so that they are fully prepared for the demands and challenges of the real world. That is why they consider that preparing a student for a career as one of the most important co-curricular activities. The college also has a placement cell, which assist students in finding part-time, freelance and summer positions once the students have developed sufficient proficiency in a chosen field. The II and III year students are sent for on-the job training in a professional setting. They feel that those internships are extremely important and give their students a clear edge over the others. At the end of the degree programme, leading industries and business houses visit the college to absorb fresh talented students straight from the college campus.

For twenty years now, St. Mary’s has been committed to educating generation next. They had started two colleges, the first being their well-known junior college at Himayathnagar, which started in 1982. The degree college at Yousufguda was primarily started to extend their career-oriented approach to education to the extremely crucial degree college period. It’s true that they are proud of their academic record (which includes state and city toppers). But they are equally proud of their students, who excel in non-academic fields (ace cricketer VVS Laxman for instance). Extra-curricular activities are an integral part of the college life, giving the students an opportunity to recharge their batteries each day. The college had won many basket-ball matches that were conducted last year at the university level and the heroes behind the success were the basket-ball players of the college, who were trained under the able guidance of Mr. Danikal Kumar, the basket ball coach at St. Mary’s.

The students usually unwind over a game of cricket, volley ball or join some of the popular recreation clubs for quizzing, film, music, sports, etc. The students sometimes even may be asked to join the editorial team for Vox Populi, the college newsletter or Horizon, the college magazine. Sometimes get-togethers, field trips, picnics, excursions and college trips are customary break-the-routine features. The fantastic college campus is unlike any other college in the city. (After all, which college has a 450-seater cafeteria that’s situated in an atrium?). The other facilities include contemporary classrooms with audio-video facilities, Amphitheatre for seminars, film shows, national and international seminars, etc, an extensive 24-hour library, CD-ROM library and a photocopying center, an air-conditioned Internet café, sports facility, a stationary store and a first-aid center. The 70,000 sq. ft campus was designed by the eminent architect from Canada, Sikander Yar Khan, and the college also has the other state-of-the-art facilities as well. To the end, it’s true that any college can offer a degree but their aim at St. Mary’s is to give the students a reason to dream as well. The future begins here!
