Murthy Institute of Technology and Sciences witnessed an event-filled sports week from 10th to 17th of August, as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Cricket and volley ball were the two main events, which really made MITSians all enthusiastic. Cricket matches were organized by the third year students of the college. The matches were held at ZTC ground, Moula-ali from 10th to 12th of August 2009. Principal Dr.P.Appala Naidu garu along with sports in charge T.Venkata Prasad played an active role in conducting the sports activities.

The matches were really interesting. The organizers took a lot of care of the players, providing them with snacks and mineral water. Students from various branches participated actively in the matches and the management and faculty members were delighted seeing the sportive spirit of the students. The faculty community and the management members extended great help and encouragement to the students of the college. The principal always encouraged the students with the sports and cultural activities. On this account, he stressed on the importance of sports in a student’s life.

Bharadwaj, a student of second year CSE says, “The college sports events are really interesting and worth participating”. ECE students played the matches very well. Second year electronic students gave a tough fight to the other branches. Adithya, one of the organizer says, “The students are very co-operative and helpful in all aspects”. Suresh, a student of fourth year Electrical and Electronics engineering says, “The entire credit goes to third year students for conducting such an extraordinary tournament”.

Various matches were held between second years and third years where the third years won. The matches between third years and fourth years were really interesting and were worth watching. The organizers provided the players special cricket kits. On 13/08/2009, a volley ball match was conducted by the EEE fourth years in the college premises. The event started at 10′ o clock in the morning with the  principal of the college declaring the volley ball match open.

The fourth years took a lead in organizing the event. Suresh, a student of EEE, fourth year says, “It brings immense happiness to organize such an event”. Students from all the four years participated in the volley ball match. The first match was held between CSE 2 and CSE 3. The matches were really well organized. Computer Science students participated in the match with a great deal of excitement. Spectators enjoyed each and every move of the players. The total campus resonated with the cheering from various branch students.

Sainath, captain of ECE 3 says, “We feel really happy for conducting such an event in the college and the total credit goes to principal sir and the faculty”. The day ended on a great note with EEEians emerging as winners. Everyone in the college congratulated the winners and prize distribution was held on 15/08/09 as part of Independence Day celebrations. Sreekanth, head of Electrical and Electronics department congratulated students for winning the cup for the branch.

The winners were awarded with a cup and a cash prize of 2,000 rupees. The prizes were given away by chairman Dr. R.S.N Murthy along with director Jaganmohan. On this occasion, the chairman congratulated entire staff of sports committee for conducting these activities in the college. The entire team felt happy for the event. IT third years finished second. The runners were also awarded a cash prize of 1500 rupees. On the whole, the event was a grand success. The faculty and management congratulated the 3rd year and 4th year students for organizing such a marvelous event. Encouraged by the faculty and students, the third year students are now planning to conduct a sports festival in the college.
