With the start of Navratri on 19th of Sep 2009, Dandiya celebrations in the city had also started. Many clubs and function gardens have been hosting dandiya parties from about a week in the city. Girls dressed in colourful lehengas, boys in traditional kurtis, attractive dandiya sticks and rocking music is what one gets to see at the dandiya parties. Youngsters poured in huge numbers at all the places, where dandiya was organized in the city. The Secunderabad Club, Mallareddy Gardens, Shilparamam, Imperial Gardens are some of the important venues, where dandiya parties were held. The entry pass was in the range of Rs.300-500 per day depending up on the venue. The entry price did not hinder the number of people attending the party in anyway. Huge number of Gujarati families turned up for these parties. The celebrations started at about 8 o’clock and continued up to very late in the night in almost all the venues. The Namdhari Gaurav Navratri Ustav, which was held at Mallereddy gardens at Bowenpally attracted hundreds of people like it does every year. Radio Stations like Big acted as one of the media partners for the event. Regional news media was also spotted covering for the event. The celebrations started off with the Goddess Durga pooja. As the pooja came to an end the orchestra started giving beautiful beats. The beats literally tempted the people over there to dance. Before dandiya commenced, the Gujarati traditional dance Garbha, which is performed at the time of Dussera was held. Nice Gujarati music was provided for the Garbha session, which continued for about 2 long hours. Garba competition was also held and people, who wished to participate were given a chance. Many non Gujaratis were also a part of these celebrations. “It’s good to have such events in the city. Me and my friends have taken the 9 nine day pass to have fun all the 9 days. It’s only once in a year we get to enjoy and dance this way”, said 19 yrs old Siddarth. “It didn’t really matter if we new Garbha or not! We just joined the ground with our own steps and yeah we also started copying the Garbha steps from the Gujartis dancing over there”, said Anisha.

RJ Chetan of BIG was also present at the celebrations and entertained the crowd. The heat was on when the dadiya begun. The grounds were completely full of people. The music provided by the orchestra was absolutely rocking. People danced in groups with their friends. All that could be heard was the rocking beats of orchestra and the dandiya sticks striking. “It was fantastic! I danced with my friends for continuous two and a half hours. It was so much fun. We danced our souls out!” said very excited Nidhi, who came to the event along with her friends. As is started getting late in the night the beats of music started getting faster. The youngsters were having absolute fun with the groove of the music.

There were many vegetarian food stalls also present at the venue. Tasty food was provided for affordable prices. The 9 day celebration came to a very grand ending ending on the 9th day when many people turned up for having last dandiya dance of the year. These celebrations provide a nice break for people from their daily routines. These parties are growing big because of youngsters, who are ready to spend anything to have fun and because of the working people, who are also ready to spend to take a small break from their work. The organizers of such parties expect to see people to pour in more in number the next year. And thus another year of Dandiya fever in the city comes to and end.
