As the exams of 3-2 came to an end, all the third year students of Sridevi Engg College were very much excited about their upcoming tour. All the students of CSE, IT and ECE were being taken to the tour together. The tour was scheduled from 19th of December to 28th of December. The tickets were booked and the complete itinerary was given soon after the exams came to an end. All the students got busy shopping and getting things ready for the tour in time. Places included in the itinerary were Chennai, Athirampally, Thekkady, Munnar, Allepey, Kanya Kumari and Trivandrum.
Just when the students were ready to take off for the tour the principal of the college decided to cancel the tour, the reason being the agitations in the state over the separation issues. As the news of the tour being canceled spread, the spirits of the students went for a toss. It took a great deal of effort for the students to convince the principal not to cancel the tour. Finally when the principal had no more objections with the tour and was fine with it, the hearts of the students were filled with joy again. The tour started on 19th December with a total of 134 students and six faculty members of the college boarding the Charminar Express which left the platform of Nampally station at 6.30pm. The level of fun the girls had in the train increased as time passed. The train arrived on the platforms of Chennai Central on 20th December at 8am. All the students were taken to the Egmore Museum in Chennai, which was found to be the most boring place on the earth!
On 20th Dec all students started off to Trichur by the Allepey Express. From Trichur there was a drive to the Athirampally water falls. All the students were allowed to have fun at the water falls for about 2hrs. “Waterfalls were totally amazing! The pressure of the water at some places was really good. We had complete fun pushing our friends into the water”, said Anusha. After spending time at the water falls there was a drive of about 8hrs to Thekakady. On 22nd December students proceeded for the local visit which included Spice Gardens and Periyar Lake. “The visit to Spice Gardens was educative and interesting too”, opined 3rd year student Swapna. After the local visit, students had to again start off for Munnar the same day.
On 23rd December students were taken to the national park in Munnar and then to the Echo point. “Munnar was a real beautiful place! Mornings were very foggy and the temperature was quite low. Munnar was a place full of natural beauty. Felt like spending years enjoying the beauty!” said Aparna. After Munnar national park students proceeded to see the echo point. “There was no good echo at the Echo Point. Wonder how they named it so! Even after yelling like hell no considerate echo was generated”, said Sashi. In the night a camp fire was arranged in an open ground. Very good music provided and all the students were seen shaking a leg for the music.
On 24th December, students were taken to Allepey, where they could have a little boating. Then from Allepey students were driven to Kanya Kumari. On 25th December all the students gathered at the beach early in morning expecting to see the sunrise. But unfortunately due to heavy clouds, witnessing sunrise was impossible. Then after breakfast students were taken to the Kanyakaparameshwari temple in Kanya Kumari. After the darshan all the girls went for shopping at the nearby shops. Then they had a drive to Trivandrum. On 26th December, students visited the Padmanabhaswamy temple in Trivandrum in the early hours of the morning. Visit to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre which was scheduled in the afternoon cancelled due to the lack of acknowledgment from the research centre to the college managment. After lunch every body had to board the train to Chennai. On 27th Dec all the students reached Chennai at 10am. After lunch all the students were taken to the Spencers mall in Chennai for pure shopping. A complete 2hrs of shopping on the last day of the tour gave immense happiness to all the girls. After shopping till their purses were nearly empty every body got on to the Charminar Express to get back to Hyderabad.
27th of December, the last day of tour was the day when every body enjoyed to their maximum levels. No one slept on the night of 27th. The 8 day tour finally ended when the train arrived the platforms of Nampally station on 28th morning.
