Constructing to Fly in BIET !
Civil Engineering is a professional engineering course that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. It is the oldest engineering stream and it was started in the year 2008 in Bharat Institute of Engineering and Technology(BIET). The donation fee for this branch ranges from Rs.3-4 lakhs, and most of the students come through the management quota. The college is situated in the outskirts of the city, on Ibrahimpatnam road. There are almost 20-25 buses covering all parts of Hyderabad.
“Civil stream is an evergreen subject; it’s the ‘Mother of engineering’ and I feel that I have taken the perfect decision about getting admitted into this branch,” says Beulah, a student of 2nd year. The infrastructure, the classrooms and the labs are the most attractive parts of the college, therefore many students got convinced to join here. When asked Varun on what made him join this college, he says, “The infrastructure and mostly the play grounds are really huge and nice. They perfectly give the look of a beautiful campus.”

In their 1st year,the students of Civil had Mr.Madanmohan reddy as their HOD(Head of The Department) and now they have Mr.Srinivasa reddy who is a retired professor from OU (Osmania University). Mr.Srinivasa had taught a subject to the 1st years and most of them felt that he was good but maintained pretty high standards in teaching to such an extent that they couldn’t immediately understand what he was trying to tell. When asked Shweta about the faculty, she shares ,“The faculty is okay, but they are not well experienced. They are just in their early 20’s and do not have a proper degree also. Though they have little knowledge about the subject and do not have a command over English language”.
In any professional college, labs play a very vital role in providing practical knowledge to a student. When asked about the availability of proper lab facilities, Anil expresses, “We have a few mechanical subjects and for those we have proper labs but for our core subjects,we do not have them in a proper shape”. Another student, Kavita, a very adjusting person by nature says, “Ours is the first batch of Civil Engineering in the college, so it is difficult for the management to arrange everything in the beginning.Though as years go, I am sure it’ll get developed.”

As per many students,the classrooms, toilets, play grounds and all the other facilities are very satisfactory but when it comes to the labs, many are unhappy. One among them shares “The way the college management presented the college in the prospectus was too much. Seriously,I got really impressed with the whole look, but I realized that we don’t have labs related to our subject when I joined. It’s really unfortunate”. Another student shares his frustration this way, he tells “In our 1st year,we had Mr.Madan Mohan as our HOD but now we don’t have a perfect HOD. One says it’s Madan sir and the others say it’s some other sir. God knows whom we have to go and approach”.
The water facility in the college has to be improved too. The seniors say that there were matkas (mud pots) in the beginning and the water was impure and muddy but now things are improving, the college has installed a Blue Star water purifier machine. But when it comes to discipline, the college ranks good. After a stipulated time of 9:30 A.M, nobody is allowed to roam about in the campus or in the canteen either.Furthermore, nobody is allowed to bunk or go out of the college without the HOD’s permission. Every month, the attendance percentage is sent to the residence of the students and thus parents have a track of their child’s performance.

Overall, it could be inferred that this college for the above branches of Civil and Aeronautics is good as of now but a lot has to be improved upon still. The labs and faculty have to be given a check. Though the students can still join to have fun in the spacious playgrounds and enjoy the beautiful scenary of the college.
