“Hey, I have just heard great news!!! Our exams have been postponed.”…….”one  sandwich and lays please“…..“Hey, long time…where have you been?” Wondering where on earth you have come to? Well, you have just entered the canteen of Pulla Reddy Institute of Technology (PRIT). This canteen has seen students flooding it as if some invisible magic strands are pulling them.  And that’s exactly the reason why one can find students here at any given hour.

When asked  Shruti from PRIT says, “Here the air is vocal with youthful laughter. That’s the thing I like the most about this place.” You may ask her what she is doing here at such an odd hour but, she curtly cuts you saying, “There is no such thing as an odd hour where canteen is concerned. You don’t need to wait for the time and day to have fun. Right…“

Tired of listening to your lecturer? Had enough of transformer and DC coupling? Then the time is perfect to head to the canteen.  This clearly explains the reason why students walk towards canteen as if suffering from insomnia.

“Got a good attendance? Your friend is a class topper? The lecturer’s absent? Be it any reason, there’s always a celebration and for every celebration there’s canteen,” quips Anirudh.

What’s so special about the canteen that attracts many out of their class-rooms?  “Well, we are tired of the sincere face we carry all through the college but, here there are no restrictions.  You can shed your ‘Obedient Student’ mask and be yourself ” whispers Meghana, now with a cautious look wary of the presence of HOD. ” Also, canteen serves as a safe haven to the greedy-eyed seniors while it is a nightmare to the shaky-legged juniors” adds Amulya with a cunning smile.

This canteen also houses serious discussions. The gizmo freak guys highlighting the exciting features of some newly arrived gadget is a regular feature here. One can always see another group animatedly talking about the special effects of  a newly released sci-fi movie. Turn around and one will find a group of girls confessing their crushes with the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ serving as the background score while another group gossips about celebrity break-ups and patch-ups. You are sure to hear lots of exciting chatter here. “All in all, canteen is our student’s paradise.” says Sahas. Any doubts??

This is not just a place for gossiping and killing one’s time, the food here is simply to be loved. ”The best part about being here is that I can always pamper myself with a yummy cappuccino “quips the food-loving Shweta at the corner table, greedily taking a sip.  Be it Chinese noodles, all fruit salad, Chocolate milk shake, fresh baked cake – the ‘Food Court’ has the best to offer. “Noodles and fried rice are the top most sold dishes” remarks Ramalinga Reddy, the canteen owner. Manisha points out “The food is available at a very reaonable rate. One can get their money’s worth here.” Zing tries to find out the other aspects of the canteen. “It is very sultry in the summer here. Also, though the canteen is big in area, not many can be accomodated. This is something that is not to like” rues Sumiran. Though the canteen has its own limitations, it still remains the favourite spot of the students.

Students come here for food. But, some others have a different reason. “I can wile away my time with out having to worry about being caught” chips in  Rohit.  Probe him a little and he says, “That’s because you will find me more in the canteen than in the class ” True, folks may bunk classes, but they make it a point not to miss the fun of food-court.

It’s so true that students wage canteen for every moment’s joy and for the joy of every moment. The canteen not only serves as a hideout from the torture of the faculty’s lectures but also makes sure that the students taking pains to bunk their classes have the time of their life while bunking the classes.
