It Happens Here :>

As soon as the engineering students step into the college and start taking the feel of the college life they are flooded with questions and immense pressure. Recalling the first day in CM Engineering college  Meera Nair says, “I still remember the first day of my college where in all the classes there was one common question asked by all the lecturers who entered and that was ‘WHAT’S AFTER B-TECH?’ and I was left with nothing except of saying that I want to become an Engineer and do job in a software company.”

Similarly, majority of the students are clueless when asked for this question.Vennela Madabhushi, a 3rd year B.Tech  student of CMEC thinks,  “The students, who join engineering just follow the trend. Since now the incline is towards MS / MTECH / MBA so most of the students will go for MS/MTECH / MBA after B-TECH.” Thus nowadays you find  students  juggling through the books whether its GRE books, M.Tech Study Material or Apptitute Books.

As many are the people, those many are the reasons to opt. for any particular field. Ritu Varma says, “I want to move out of my shell and live an independent life so I would like to prefer MS in Australia where I can earn and pay my learn as much as possible”. Whereas C. Sammat Kumar has got a different reason to go abroad and do MS. He opines, “I want to go abroad to give financial support to my family and to simultaneously study over there.” Same is the case with students who are preferring for M-tech. They also have got their share of reasons. “I would like to go for M-tech as no one in my family has ever done it. I’m really determined about it and will start taking coaching in ACE institute after my 3-2  end  exams”, explains P.Nagmani. The other students who are not interested in higher studies are looking forward for jobs and their reasons as, “I am looking forward to get a job in software company as my parents don’t want me to go for higher studies and for that I’ll be taking coaching for the courses like .net, Oracle, DA&DS so that I can be confident when I step into any company for interview,” says Neal Harsha.

The core reason that most of the students are going with the so called “Popular” fields is the lack of knowledge about the various other options available. Students are aware of few options with limited knowledge and so every other student is trying to run after those few known fields. Proper browsing, interacting with  seniors and experienced persons/teachers are the few measures which can be adopted to avoid the question mark on the students’ faces, when asked for this question. Nithish bandari explains  about various such options, which many of the students are unaware of. “ The fields are mainly classified into 2 categories-Government fields & Non-Government fields. There is a wide scope in both  the categories.

Students can go for UPSC exams(Groups),Railways exam or can opt. for Defence, Air force, Navy, MES, DRDO ( Defence Research for Development Organization).

Under Non-Government field students have the opportunity in Customs, APCPDCL (A.P. Central Power Distribution Company Ltd.) & jobs in private companies.”

Students even have the opportunity to change their fields in which they are interested in. Unlike others Vivek Sudhanshu has a plan to change his field. He tells us about his plans, “I’m going to do 3 years course in Multi-Media in US or Canada and after that will be looking forward for Game Designing”. In this way one even have the opportunity to change his/her field and can go for M.A in Literature, Multi-Media, etc as per their interests. Banking sector is also another field where one can take an entry through  Banking P.O’s examination or Banking Clerk examination.
